Her first rule is simple but radical: don’t multitask. She doesn’t just mean putting down your phone — she means being fully present. If you want to leave the conversation, leave it; but don’t be half in and half out. The second rule is never to pontificate. If you only want to state your opinion with no room for response or growth, write a blog. The third rule is to use open-ended questions, taking a cue from journalists: start with who, what, when, where, why, or how, rather than questions that can be answered with a simple yes or no.
